Lamar Richardson is a 3x Tony Award®-winning Broadway, film, and television producer focused on championing underrepresented voices and ushering in culturally resonant stories across stage and screen. In 2026, he made history as the youngest Black lead producer to win a Tony Award® in one of the ceremony’s top production categories at age 33 and became the 4th overall following Ken Harper (1975), Oprah Winfrey (2016), and Glenn Davis (2025). In 2024, Richardson also made history as the youngest Black producer to win two Tony Awards® in one season at age 31. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina as the son of Antiguan parents, Richardson received his B.A. from Columbia University in 2015. Trained as an actor, he was discovered by Phylicia Rashad, through world-renowned Acting Coach Susan Batson, who cast him as 'Sylvester' in her 2016 production of August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom at the Mark Taper Forum. Richardson is the CEO of Ivy Lion Productions, an independent banner founded in 2022 and aimed at producing prestige artist-driven, commercially ambitious projects targeting new, diverse audiences. On Broadway, he made his Lead Producer debut with the critically acclaimed Fall 2025 revival of Ragtime, produced in association with Lincoln Center Theater. His producorial debut was as a Co-Producer of the Fall 2022 revival of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman starring Wendell Pierce, Sharon D. Clarke, and André De Shields. Other Broadway co-producing credits include New York, New York, The Wiz, Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff’s Merrily We Roll Along (Tony Award®), Sarah Paulson’s Appropriate (Tony Award®), Audra McDonald’s Gypsy, Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Othello, and Smash. He also made his UK debut as a Co-Producer of the Fall 2025 production of The Hunger Games: On Stage at Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre. Richardson made his film producing debut as a Co-Producer of Bleecker Street's 2024 comedy, The Fabulous Four, starring Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Megan Mullally. In 2024, he announced Ivy Lion’s television slate and signed with Zero Gravity Management. Over the years, he has developed and packaged several scripted projects starring the likes of Lorraine Toussaint, Glynn Turman, Patina Miller, Rome Flynn, Gabrielle Dennis, Trai Byers, and more. Richardson was also the recipient of Stephen Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey's 2022 Front Row Productions Fellowship at Columbia University. Other education includes studies at Duke University and study abroad at Oxford University. In March 2023, Richardson produced and starred in a staged reading of Afrika Brown's The Fight as a part of The Apollo Salon Series. Other select acting credits include Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Blue Bloods, FBI, New Amsterdam, and Amazon's The Better Sister. Richardson is a member of SAG-AFTRA, Actors' Equity Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
